The Procedure:
STEP 1: Determine the original condition of your stone. I will cut the grass around your stone, inspect it for any damage, cracks, settling, any place where water can get in between the top piece and base. If any urn or article of display is damaged, I will note that on the work order. (If I find the stone structurally unsafe, I won't attempt to clean it.) STEP 2: Determine the type of stone and type of residue. I will determine the type of stone (granite, sandstone, marble, or limestone) and type of residue on your stone. Then I will choose the least aggressive method that will still clean your stone and preserve all the engravings.
STEP 3: Clean the stone with the proper agents. I will use the safest materials to clean your stone, along with plenty of water. I may use some mild chemicals, if necessary, but they will be just about the safest and least aggressive available for cleaning gravestones.
